STEVE ROCK: Steve & Jules at SXSW/Dog And Duck Pub 3/18/06

Here's Love Experts singer and songwriter Steve Carosello with legendary singer/songwriter Jules Shear, at the big outdoor Pop Culture Press thingy last Saturday. Steve had just assured Jules that of the 1300 bands at SXSW, we were probably the only one to have listened to Jules' classic Great Puzzle album at top volume on the drive down to Austin. Jules was thankful and got a chuckle out of it...

I'm bubbling over with happiness at your unabashed glee over all SXSW doings. You guys have a somewhat-deserved reputation for being rock crumudgeons, yet here you are gushing like 16-year olds. I love seeing these photos because I still hear The Steves animatedly telling the stories, including the spot-on vocal imitations of Jules Shear.

I listened to "The Great Puzzle" last week. I really love that guy.

I don't understand the "Suzanna Hoffs" obsession with you guys.

If only Julie Christie could sing...

Susanna is the keeper of a flame that means most to me, personally. She could look as blood-freezingly terrifying as Aimee Mann* and I'd still worship her for being, year-in and year-out, the One True Beacon of folk-rock music, past, present, & future.

*Check out her latest: "Hangin On The Cross, Part XII"

Remember when Jules Shear hosted MTV Unplugged? Man, I loved that show... those were special times... times when MTV gave a shit about music and (gasp) featured musicians... Nowadays, I suppose the M stands for 'manipulative.'

This pic made me all mysty-eyed about a bygone era. Rock on Jules!

Thanks for the blog! I'm loving it.
