POLITICS/MUSIC: Go Howie!

A definite must read post, here, from Howie Klein's great blog, DownWithTyranny. Some of you old punk and new wavers from back in the day may remember Howie as the founder of the great San Franciso record label 415 Records. Howie went on to become president of Reprise Records, and was universally recognized as one of the good guys in the upper echelons of the music biz---a rarity who was able to keep his initial passion and fandom for music as well as the respect for those who create it intact. Some of that respect for the artist was on display in his appearance in the Wilco documentary, I Am Trying To Break Your Heart. Howie is retired from the music business, and is now kicking ass and taking names writing about politics on his blog. And notice how great minds share the same blog templates... :)

BTW, is that Wilco movie entertaining enough for the most casual of listeners, or need one be a big fan to appreciate it?
Also, you are remarkably silent on this whole Dubai/ports deal. And I don't blame you - everyone fucked up on that one!

If you're a fan of rock documentaries in general, then I think you don't have to be a Wilco fan in order to find it interesting. It meanders bigtime in spots, but the live footage is good when they're rocking out. What I liked best about it, and of course I've got an admittedly huge personal predjudice, is seeing my boy Margherita in action. He's the kind of manager every rock band wants and dreams of, but only maybe 1% ever get.

As for Dubai, what can you say but add it to the mile long list of this administration's fuck-ups. What I can't get over is how rapidly the wheels have come off of their once mighty PR machine. They can't spin shit anymore, and it's mighty enjoyable to watch them freaking the fuck out. I thought of you when I saw that new commercial Tennessee US Senate candidate Harold Ford quickly filmed on the shores of the Baltimore port. Good to see a Democrat jump so fast on the obvious gift that was handed to him...
